About us

The Aurora Lions Club has been living up to its motto of “We Serve” in this community for 80 years.  When the club received its charter on April 12th 1944, the Lions became the first service club in Aurora.

We are part of Lions International, which is the largest volunteer service organization in the world, with over 1.4 million members and 46,000 clubs in more than 200 countries.

As Lions, we respond to local and global challenges with kindness and care.  Historically, our five main pillars that we support through fundraising events, corporate and individual donations and giving of our time have been:

Hunger

Christmas basket/donation program, local food bank, Team Aurora Lions participate in the Coldest Night of the Year Walk.

Vision

We carry out vision screening in local schools for Senior Kindergarten, Organize the annual Walk for Dog Guides, Ladies Paint Night and the sale of Puppy Calendars to raise funds for the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides. Throughout the year, we collect used eyeglasses which are sent to emerging countries.

In addition to these pillars, we give generously to local hospices, other charitable/volunteer organizations including Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Rose of Sharon, Abuse Hurts and Blue Door Shelter and individuals in need.

We support Camps for children who face challenges and in need of kidney dialysis.  Throughout the year, we collect pull tabs which support the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guide and put on BBQs in the summer months for schools and local businesses to raise money for other initiatives within our community.

As our world changes, so has our Lions focus to include Disaster Relief, Mental Illness and Youth Support.

We are proud of our commitment to our community and strive to ensure that where there is a need, there will always be a Lion.
